Intermediate students also voted for the Sasquatch Award, and Hedden students chose:

Finally, our Hedden Student Bookstore opened this week, all books are only $1.00!
This is a nonprofit service for students with all proceeds going to replenish the bookstore inventory.
A special thank you to our Hedden P.T.A. who stepped in to handle book-keeping, and organized parent volunteers to run the store (which is every Wednesday during student lunches in our gym).

Changes in the Hedden Library - Term 2

As we've started the next term of our school year, we are doing some new additional things in our Hedden Library.

After our literacy lessons, students have always had a book check-out time, then time to read, etc.  Now, we are providing our Hedden students with additional learning opportunities.

After check-out, students now are using netbooks (laptops) for research, or eBook reading.  Our younger students are using the netbooks, as well as the interactive LeapPad books.  Some students are even using their remaining minutes to try strategy games like chess and checkers.

We are also now open before school on Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. for students who would like to renew, or check-out books.  They also may use the time to work on assignments or projects, or do any of the above-mentioned items.  Finally, we now have Scholastic online book ordering through the library if your child doesn't already have these available to them through their classroom teacher.

We're excited about our new programs.  We are even working on some other programs.  Check back for updates!

If you have any gently-used books, we'd appreciate any donations.  They can be any level.  Thank you for supporting your Hedden Library.

Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Dear Parents,

This year, through the library, we are offering students the opportunity to purchase paperback books from book clubs.  These books are inexpensive and offer your child the pleasure of owning and reading good books.  Books also make great gifts!   Book order forms will be available each month and orders are all done online.

Here’s how it works:

Online Ordering Information:
Web address:  scholastic.com/bookclubs
Class Activation Code:  GNDY9

1. Use the information above to access the Scholastic Book Clubs Web site.
2. Browse the titles with your child, and place your order with your credit card.
3. Your order will come to me, and your credit card payment will go directly to Scholastic’s secure server. There’s no need to send money to school.
4. After I submit the entire order to Scholastic, your order will be delivered to our library for your child to take home.
5. If you want me to set them aside them for gifts – just let me know & you can pick them up at a time that’s convenient for you.

Remember, placing your online credit card order is completely safe and secure.   Ordering online is the most convenient way to use Scholastic Book Clubs and it also allows you to take advantage of exclusive online-only offers and an expanded selection of books and software. The best part is, you can order anytime, right up until the online order due date.

Your orders earn us points and free books for our library and student rewards!  Thanks for helping our school!

Student participation is welcomed, but not required.  If you are already doing Book Club ordering through your child's classroom, please feel free to continue supporting them.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Mr. Wolfe

Author Visit - Kelly Milner-Halls!

We are very excited to be hosting nonfiction writer, Kelly Milner-Halls at Hedden!  She will be at our school all day on Tuesday, December 14th.  She writes a wide variety of nonfiction topics from mummies, albino animals, dinosaurs, and Sasquatch, to a recent book that has received much acclaim, Saving the Baghdad Zoo.

Ms. Milner-Halls will be doing assemblies and writing workshops with our different grade levels.  Students will find her very engaging, and the idea of writing nonfiction about unusual topics a fresh fun idea!

In the library we've been looking at many of her books during our literacy lessons in anticipation of her arrival!

Below you'll find her website:
