Author Visit - Kelly Milner-Halls!
We are very excited to be hosting nonfiction writer, Kelly Milner-Halls at Hedden! She will be at our school all day on Tuesday, December 14th. She writes a wide variety of nonfiction topics from mummies, albino animals, dinosaurs, and Sasquatch, to a recent book that has received much acclaim, Saving the Baghdad Zoo.
Ms. Milner-Halls will be doing assemblies and writing workshops with our different grade levels. Students will find her very engaging, and the idea of writing nonfiction about unusual topics a fresh fun idea!
In the library we've been looking at many of her books during our literacy lessons in anticipation of her arrival!
Below you'll find her website:

WCCPB - What is the best picture book in Washington?
We have been reading the 2011 Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Nominees with second and third graders over the last few weeks. We will read all 20 nominees, and then students will have their voice heard as they contribute their votes with other students from across Washington state. The variety of books is incredible.
Students, which books are your favorites so far?
Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome!
I'm very happy you found our Hedden Elementary Library BLOG! What are you reading? This past summer I read the The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's an action-packed book for older readers (part of a series). Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism by Georgia Byng is a fantastic chapter book (part of another series) for elementary kids. I also read many great picture books including: The Library Mouse by Daniel Kirk, and Snoring Beauty by Bruce Hale.
